Sometime in the past couple of years, Avalon Emerson lost the “rising” tag and just became a star. Moving to Berlin may have helped, but what really cemented her reputation as a must-see selector was the combination of her diverse releases on record labels like Whities and Spectral Sound, and her intense, richly coloured DJ sets. Avalon’s own records, which load up loose-limbed drum tracks with the padded melancholy of Detroit, are a microcosm for the creative, inventive DJ she’s become. Known to be incredibly detail-oriented, her sets have an unstinting energy fuelled by quick-fire, seamless transitions between genres.
Whether she’s playing Panorama Bar or alongside techno legends in a warehouse, her sets are a pure pleasure trip where the crowd might experience industrial synths one minute and then find themselves in the middle of a hands-in-the-air disco session. Knowledgeable, exciting, intense; expect a journey from this risen star who we’re proud to have as our Junction 2 resident for 2020.
